When Mark Zuckerberg pledged 99% of his Facebook shares to charitable use in an open letter to his newborn daughter, everyone online had an opinion about it – and not all of it was very giving. Bill Gates, Google’s Sergey Brin, and others have made similar donations or established foundations in their names.
Philanthropy among financial titans is nothing new. Most cities are dotted with landmarks named after captains of industry who made sizable donations to causes and cities they cherished as their industries and fortunes boomed. These days, tech entrepreneurs, who drive so much financial growth around the world, have become a top source for much of the world’s philanthropy.
Below is a quick list of entrepreneurs using their wealth to benefit society as well as themselves. Not only will these donations help the specific causes to which they’re pledged, they also create a contagious spirit that inspires others. You may not be a millionaire but as crowdfunding has proven, no donation is too small when enough people are involved. In the end, however small your donation may seem, it will always be more than was there before.
“It is better to give than to receive.”
During the holiday season, most of us are scrounging up change and scrambling to buy the perfect presents for our loved ones…and even the not so loved ones. Ultimately, there’s something about the gift of giving and knowing that someone will be happy to receive it that makes us feel good inside.
We’ve gathered a list of 5 charity apps that are easy to use, and sure to give you a good feeling after you donate to a chosen cause. Best of all, you can use these apps to donate all year round!

MTV created a new category for its coveted Video Music Awards, Best Video with a Message. The category highlights artists and songs who are associated with a given cause. Among the nominees are punk legends, Rise Against.
Rise Against’s “Make It Stop (September’s Children)” was part of the anti-bullying awareness campaign, It Gets Better. Headliner was happy to help Rise Against create promotions that were shared on their social networks by thousands of fellow artists.
This is a great example of how Headliner can help musicians share messages of hope as well as their music. We thank Rise Against for devoting themselves to a good cause and for using Headliner to get the word out. We encourage the Headliner family to support Rise Against with their votes and we wish them the best of luck on their nomination.
You can view the other nominees and vote at MTV.
