A children’s show may seem like an unlikely vehicle for indie rock stars, but for the past three seasons Yo Gabba Gabba creators Scott Schultz and Christian Jacobs have made it work, inviting guests like Chromeo and Of Montreal to serenade youngsters with gleeful originals. Yo Gabba Gabba writes all the show’s songs with an in-house writing team to avoid the high cost licensing fees if their guests played their own songs. Still, each guest brings a unique performance style kids wouldn’t get to see otherwise. The Village Voice recently sat down with Schultz and Jacobs for an interview about the music of Yo Gabba Gabba! Schultz and Jacobs come across as cool people who genuinely care more about music and kids than about ratings and money. Check it out here.
