From Tuesday to Friday of last week a mishmash of music companies ranging from AOL to a company that runs a German music festival, to numerous start ups converged on the Austin Convention Center to take part in the SXSW trade show. One area that a number of startups are stepping up to fill is online booking. Big bands have professional booking companies and managers who get them into the trendiest venues with the hottest groups.
But what about bands doing it all themselves? What resources do they have? New York based Gigmaven offers bands the ability to contact bookers through systems which match bands to venues where they should be good fits. Guguchu which is in Beta will be offering a similar service soon. Indieonthemove.com allows bands to open for out of town bands on the road in exchange for letting those bands open for them at home.
