Mountain Dew is usually associated with nerds playing video games in their basements. Soon it could be synonymous with nerds making music in their basements. A couple years ago Mountain Dew partnered with Cornerstone Promotions, the people who run the Fader, to start a record label, Green Label Sound. The label has been on a signing hot streak ever since with a roster of talent which includes Matt and Kim, Chromeo and Holy Ghost. Now Neon Indian is the latest to sign with the all-digital label. Brands sponsoring musicians are all the rage currently-with everyone from 10 Deep to McDonalds getting in on the action. Results are varied, and I’m not sure how I feel about all this. I guess if it helps good musicians make the music they like, that’s all that matters. More info here.
