As music enters its digital age, consumers online have gravitated towards downloading singles with albums falling by the wayside. The reason is simple: why pay for a whole album of filler when all you all you want to do is listen to the singles? How can labels get people to buy more tracks? Warner Nashville believes they have a solution, the “six pak”, a digital bundle of six songs. The new format is debuting this March with the release of “Hillybilly Bone” by Blake Shelton. This will be followed in August by a second Six Pak by Shelton. Whether or not the format is a success, it is about time labels started experimenting with new formats. More info here.
